You can't handle the truth

I stumbled upon this interesting article referenced by Consumerist , posted by Chicagoist .  It is an article which focuses around the Fortune Magazine rejection of Chris Ware's cover submission for the May 2010 issue of Fortune Maganzine.  The cover displays skyscrapers in the shape of the number 500.  On the top of the building seem to be wealthy people receiving money from helicopters which are taking them from the US National Treasury.  From left to right China is loading boats with boxes (probably merchandise, it has been said "everything is made in China), A person in China is collecting Dollar signs, a film is being shot with a person shooting another person, boats are being unloaded and boxes are being placed onto trucks which are dumping the boxes into a Big Box Super Glut building, there is a stocks and bonds casino, a building that has Fabrica de Exploitacion with workers that look like they are in a sweatshop, someone trying to cross the barbed wire fence being shot, food and water being heavily guarded, an oil rig knocked over, Milton Friedman building that says Paycheck Advance on it with a line of people, Oracle Buffet building, Elephant shaped teapot with peopl holding American flags around it dance, a pile of cars looking like a junkyard, a truck dumping money taken from local businesses, a sign that says Welcome to Toxic Asset Acres, AOK cemetery, Waves of Grain sign saying Lots for Sale, Your Bank building with FDIC cars out front and people, Your Home house is flooded and literally in the Gulf of Mexico, Greenspan Lube Pro  building with a For Sale sign, Credit/Fault Swap/Flea Market sign, Flamin Hot Food Desert diner, some bumbs/homeless people, a building that says Cash Loans on House Titles with a closed sign, Florida has a For Sale sign on it, a person is shoveling money from underneath a CONNED-O building, and finally prisoners from an island nearby watch.

So you may be wondering; what does this all mean, and why was it rejected?  I believe the cover screams how corrupt America is. The cover speaks of how to rich just get richer by taking advantage of the poor, how america is so wasteful and ignorant.

I will explain what I see in the comic in the same fashion I described them in.  The people in China loading up the boat are obviously shipping goods to America that go into super stores like Walmart, Target, BJ's, Sam's Club, and Costco.  Super Glut just shows how fat we really are.  I mean how can someone be obese when people elsewhere die from malnutrition.  America develops drugs to treat diabetes andhas created ways to suck out the fat from the body, but has not even thought about stopping the problem at the root. Why? Because its not profitable.  Big companies love obescity and gluttony.  It is what pays them millions if not billions  And China is raking in the money.  American films are full of violence and killing.  Gambling almost fuels the US government, for example the lottery.  American stores abuse/exploit other countries for cheap labor, especially in the areas of manufacturing such as electronics, clothing, and toys.  Merchandise is made for less than a dollar and sold with a 3000% mark up.  When illegal immigrants try to search for a better life in America without the proper procedures they are shot. America hordes resources for itself but doesn't share.  America has oil but doesnt use it.  Instead we import a majority from other countries.  I dont know too much about the paycheck advance but it seems that Americans want money now.  We want instant gratification.  I dont know much about the Oracle buffet either, same with the elephant teapot, other than its related to the political protesting group.  American produces so much corn we actually thought about using FOOD for vehicle fuel.  I think that it is seriously wrong when a country has so much food that it can think of no other usage then to create an alternative to gasoline.  For crying out loud people can't even get a days worth of food across the Atlantic.  America manufactures a ton of cars and then we just junk them.  America's pollution is crazy.  Of course its relative compared to China and other manufacturing companies, but we really dont care about the environment too much.  The whole banks giving huge loans that people can't pay situation blew up America.  Of course big rich companies benefit from having lobbyists in the government as well as politicians on their side.  Lastly, is it right or just to torture prisoners, even if they might have information regarding terrorists or something related?  Whatever I failed to mention is something I am trying to figure out myself.

My question to you reader is this.  How far down the rabbit hole are you willing to go? Will you sit idle and let this injustic pass by?  Will you continue in participating and funding this abomination? Can you handle the truth?  I myself am guilty of aiding the expansion of corporate America.  I realize no government is perfect.  But we can sure try to improve ours.
